At Grand Sables Dunes in Painted Rocks National Seashore

THANKS

I want to thank once again the lovely blogger friends who pitched in and filled this space while I was out hiking in the woods and sailing the waters of Upper Peninsula Michigan last week.  Rather than a regular post today, I will give you a peek at an article I wrote elsewhere, a little preview of coming attractions, and a serious request.

FIND ME HERE

Your Life Is a Trip, the brainchild of the master travel writers Judie Fein and Ellen Barone, features  a great array of travel writing by many contributors. My contribution this month is a not-so-serious contemplation of the variety of breakfasts around the world. You know….Worry beads, coffee and a cigarette in Greece; enough food to put you into a stupor in Ireland; and my personal favorite–Singapore street vendors. See the rest at 10 Ways to Start Your Day Around the World.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

I arrived home from my trip to find a stack of four brand new irresistable books to add to my to-be-read and reviewed stack,  so you can look forward to a book a week starting later this month. We’ll tour places from the Pacific islands to Romania. Before that, I will talk about three books that enhance the experience of travel in the Upper Peninsula and an entire week of movies that take you away.  Coming up soon will be a week devoted to France. The road trip across America will take some time to put together, and probably will get started in January, as I get ready to celebrate the 1st birthday of A Traveler’s Library.

Fruit Bag from Doy

Fruit Bag from Doy

MY FAVORITE PURSE

A couple of years ago, I found a wonderful place to shop on line. That year, I bought Christmas presents for every female in the family, from 3 years old to 60 from Doy Bags. All my relatives were delighted. So was I, because I gifted myself with a purse of yellow and red featuring a design of shiny apples.

Doy Bags is a co-op that operates in the Philippines and by buying from them, I am contributing to the economy there, doing good things for the environment AND finding gorgeous, fun, fashionable purses and other goodies.

Doy Bags are made out of recycled drink cartons, and they make some gorgeous fruit juice containers over there, let me tell you! Take a look at their products and you will be convinced.  My daughter-in-law who loves tea, also loved her bag made of green tea containers. And my tiny grand daughter loved the cartoon cows on the milk cartons that made her tiny purse.

Why am I telling you all this? As you know the Philippines suffered some dreadful weather recently, and the small facility of the Doy Bags co-op suffered serious damage from flooding.  They desperately need some money to get people back to work and start rebuilding.  Won’t you consider doing a little gift shopping NOW to help this great business?

This is not an advertisement. I get nothing but the same satisfaction that you will also feel when you proudly carry your fashionable bag and show admiring people that it is made of recycled juice cartons! If you have a blog, I invite you to join me in passing the word about Doy Bags.
