I certainly wouldn’t mind winning a copy of Heart of the Buddha. I’ve been studying Buddhism and it would make an interesting addition to my reading list.

The review is fair. It let me know what I’m getting myself into when I open the book. In general, I don’t pick up books with even a whiff of romance, but now I can see this one might have potential.

Still and all, (ATTN:) I’d like to win Heart of the Buddha. There were many mysteries that we couldn’t answer ourselves. This would answer some of them I’m sure.

I think it’s your call on balancing how valuable a resource you think a book will be and how much you want (or not) to write about it. I prefer to hear what you enjoy about a book, even if it’s not something that’s to my taste. To me that makes a more interessting story, but I know others feel differently.

Thanks Mark. I waver between your point of view, and the thought that I am not really here as a book reviewer, but more importantly to recommend things that would help my readers enjoy their travels. When I take that second point of view, I hesitate to waste space with truly bad books. Heart of the Buddha is not all bad, however. Someone who is going to Bhutan can find some helpful information about the country there.

I enjoy both positive and negative views and think it excellent that you offer both. As you have done here, I think it very important that the reasons behind negative (and indeed, positive) views are constructively explained and the book is reviewed in balance. That helps us as readers make our own mind up about whether we could potentially enjoy the book.
