Lupine and poppies

Lupine and poppies

Are you booking your travel to Arizona for March, to see the wildflowers?  Need more excuses?

March 3 and 4 the Heard Museum in Phoenix hosts one of the largest Indian Art Fairs in the country.  Besides every form of art–and only the best, because it is a juried show–there will be performances and book signings. (Including yours truly signing copies of Quincy Tahoma on Saturday afternoon.)

Tucson Festival of Books

Tucson Festival of Books

March 10 and 11, as a book lover, you can enter nirvana–the Tucson Festival of Books, one of the five biggest in the country. Hundreds of authors, scores of panels and lectures, special programs for kids and delicious food booths will greet you at the University of Arizona campus. Many of the authors discussed here during Arizona Centennial Week will be present–Jim Turner, Jan Cleere, Jim Kristofic, Carolyn O’Bagy Davis among them. (And I’ll be there with Quincy Tahoma, again–both signing books at the Arizona Museum tent and speaking on a panel at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon).

Come meet authors from around the country, see the wildflowers in bloom, and celebrate Arizona’s 100th year.

I’m supposed to be booking travel to AZ with my son for Spring Training (he’s a huge baseball fan) but I may have missed the window there. I’d come for the wildflowers too.

I grew up in CA where the poppies and lupine flowed over the hillsides each year. Such a welcome site in a dry area that typically does not have a lot of color most of the year beyond the toasted hills of summer. This fair sounds lovely. May you meet many wonderful people as you sign your book.

As someone who lives in Arizona year round, I can tell you that March is one of the best times to be here with beautiful weather and plenty to do. I didn’t realize the Festival of Books was coming up so quickly, so I may have to plan a day trip to Tucson. What a great way to celebrate our state’s centennial.

I’m glad you enjoyed Elsie. It is such a treat to get to see a person’s thoughts through their journals and letters. Alas, now we just have fleeting e-mails (and blog comments).
