Cats got their own post–they’re snobbish that way, aren’t they? But here are some miscellaneous animals we have met along the way–not counting those behind bars or ditches in zoos or behind glass walls in Las Vegas. Humans make very interesting subjects, but animals can have the advantage of being humorous just because they are in an unexpected place. Remember the goat in the tree? Besides, you don’t have to ask their permission to print their photo.
This first photo is not so much amusing as iconic.
When you travel, do you follow the flock–go wherever the crowd is going? We did not quite get out to Mont St. Michel, but we got close enough to see these four-legged pilgrims making their way across the causeway.
How long do tortoises live, anyhow? Suppose he knew Plato? At least his grandpa used to tell him tales of the glory days of Athens.
Traffic came to a halt when this pelican decided to use the road for a runway. But he/she changed intentions and stayed a while.
We were feeling sorry for this seal, thinking it must be ill to be beached on a pier with no other seals around. Then we learned at the neighboring restaurant that he/she actually hangs out there frequently, swims with humans on the beach nearby and follows sailboats when they set out to sea.

I tried to leave a comment yesterday and it wouldn’t let me so take 2. I love capturing photos of animals and in fact just a few days ago we came upon a couple of big bulls running moving freely on a secondary highway.

I too was worried about the seal when I first saw your photo. He does sound a bit lonely though! I also love the photo of the mule-perfect with the island behind!What a great idea to give the animals a post!
What a fun post! I love all the animals you’ve captured but I’m drawn to the mule and the seal. I’ve always wanted to visit Santorini and ride those mules to the top. We like taking pictures of animals roaming out in the wild too.

I love the picture of the pelican! They’re are very interesting birds. As a child a neighbor had a huge tortoise that we youngens used to ride! They do live a very long time.
Fortunately, Debbie, the pelican stuck around for quite a while, making it easy to get some snaps.

Yeah, Lisa, the seal kinda looks depressed, doesn’t he? I still laugh when I think how we misread the situation and thought he was sick. By the way, I had an article that mentioned Love Locks in Paris, along with a picture, not long ago. Did you see it?
Animals are so incredibly photogenic, aren’t they? Love that impressively self-confident pelican.
Sophie: He had every right to be self confident. He had traffic backed up on the only road out of Sitia for a very long time.

Jackie: You’ll appreciate that the photo of the donkey on the Caldera was taken as we walked along the trail from Oia to Thera (went about half way) and we must have taken 300 pictures–everyone of them good, this being Santorini!
