Northern Ireland Today: a Fog of Deceit

We have been looking at Northern Ireland this week, starting with music and a musicians memoir, then moving to a historic novel that takes place at the beginning so of the struggle for Independence.  Today’s mystery novel moves to the present–14 years after the peace has been signed.

The Yellow House

It is Northern Ireland Week at A Traveler’s Library. Yesterday we heard from Kerry Dexter about a musician and his life story. Today it is a fictional look at the beginnings of the struggles that lasted a hundred years. Stayed tuned tomorrow for pictures of the Republic of Ireland (since my camera and I have not been to Northern Ireland) and on Friday a contemporary detective novel looks at Northern Ireland AFTER the Troubles.

Note: In another of those wonderful coincidences that strike  from time to time, a publisher sent a lovely novel set in Northern Ireland at the same time that another publisher sent a darker mystery from the same place.  I called on Kerry Dexter to share her unmatched understanding of Ireland and today she shares with us both a book and music to introduce Northern Ireland to the traveler. So I hereby declare Northern Ireland week at A Traveler’s Library. If you read below the video, you will learn why this is a particularly appropriate time to focus on Northern Ireland.
