I’ve been seeing pictures of Central Park in the snow–and boy, howdy, has New York had a lot of snow this winter–but I prefer this spring time look.

Stratford is home to Shakespeare – Canadian style, that is.

Located along the Avon River, Stratford, Canada is home to the Stratford Festival. The Stratford festival (in its 61st year in 2013!) runs from June through October, and brings both classical (including a plethora of Shakespeare) and contemporary plays to theatre-lovers from around the world. People make annual (or monthly) treks to see the plays, iconic theatre buildings, and extraordinary actors – and experience the jolliness and beauty of Stratford.

Author Ian Mortimer has an interesting idea.  If you want to learn the history of a place, why not imagine yourself in that place? And if you are going to time travel to Elizabethan England, you’ll need a guide book just as you would to travel to today’s London, won’t you?  So in The Time Traveler’s Guide to Elizabethan England, he has melded in-depth historical research with a format that somewhat resembles the things you would need to know if you actually could turn back the clock and visit in person.
